Why I Joined Patlytics: Transforming the IP Industry with AI

My name is Eric Lin, and I just left 11 years in big law firms to become the VP of Strategy at Patlytics. (And I did it just weeks before my wife and I are expecting our first child. Crazy, right?)

I’ve spent my entire career at the intersection of technology and the law, representing some of the most innovative companies in the world -- from startups to Fortune 500 giants, including AbCellera Biologics, Amazon, IEX, Nikon, Palo Alto Networks, and TSMC -- in high-stakes intellectual property (IP) litigation. I’ve litigated complex patent infringement cases, advised companies on strategy for large IP portfolios, and navigated fast-moving developments in technology law, often grappling with the inefficiencies and time-consuming nature of traditional IP workflows. 

Today, I’m thrilled to announce my next chapter: joining Patlytics as we revolutionize how IP professionals approach the IP practice, including litigation, prosecution, counseling, and portfolio management. Let me make the case as to why.

I’ve followed Patlytics for some time and have been consistently impressed by its vision, team, and technology. The company is building an end-to-end platform for the entire patent lifecycle, integrating AI-powered solutions that streamline everything from patent procurement to IP litigation. As someone who has spent years analyzing the claims and specifications of patents to determine claim scope, reviewing voluminous file histories to see how the PTO scrutinized patent applications, comparing claims to complex products and processes to identify non-infringement arguments, and determining the strength and weaknesses of prior art references for invalidity, I immediately saw the potential of Patlytics to unlock efficiency, enhance decision-making, and transform how we practice IP law.

With Patlytics’ recent Series A funding round and validation from top-tier companies and law firms, the timing couldn’t be better to join this journey. I look forward to working alongside Paul Lee and the incredible Patlytics team to refine and expand a product that is already making a significant impact.
